A man suffered major injuries when he crashed an all-terrain vehicle in Desert Center, southeast of Joshua Tree National Park tonight, authorities said.
The crash was reported just before 10 p.m., Wednesday Feb. 13 in the area of state Route 177 at Oasis Road, said Jody Hagemann of the Riverside County Fire Department.
The highway was closed two miles south of the accident scene to accommodate the landing of a helicopter, which took the man to a hospital, Hagemann said.
The man was unconscious when firefighters reached the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol’s online Traffic Incident Information Page.
A CHP dispatcher said the man crashed an ATV and no other vehicles were involved.
