A car went through the center divider today on Interstate 10 near Desert Center and smashed head-on into a pickup truck hauling a trailer on the eastbound lanes, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The crash was reported at 10:46 a.m. involving a Chevrolet coupe that collided with the truck near Red Cloud Mine Road. Lanes on both sides of the freeway were shut down but westbound traffic was re-opened by 11:55 a.m., the CHP reported.
Eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 were opened up by 12:24 p.m. There was no immediate word on injuries.
